What is modern western square dancing?
MWSD is derived from the old Western barn dancing where everyone turned up on a Saturday night to have fun and meet friends. Nowadays the fun and friendship part is still the same, but the dance pattern has changed quite a bit and the sequence of moves is determined by a "caller"

These moves can be simple turns, moves as couples, moves in lines or columns, or moves with all eight dancers moving together within the "square".

The music is varied, between old classics and new releases with each caller having their favourites.

There are many levels of dancing; Basic, Plus, Advanced and Challenge. You can learn to dance up to any of these levels. You decide the pace and complexity that suits you.

Join a local club and learn the moves. Then visit other clubs in Canada or elsewhere. Dances are held in most parts of the world with the moves being called in English, even in Japan.

Square Dancing offers an entertaining and inexpensive evening (or afternoon) out. It is great exercise without the investment of a gym membership or equipment.
